ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Janette

WHO I AM

I had my first daughter at 19 and her sister at 23. I have raised them primarily on my own and am proud to say they are strong and smart young ladies. Throughout their childhood I worked one or two jobs and went to school. Despite this, I strived to be there for field trips, cheer competitions, football games, and girl scout events.

My career has taken many roads that have taught me many things. The first 9 years as a CNA, then LPN in a nursing home taught me that the elderly are too often forgotten and deserve the utmost respect and best care. My decade of critical and emergency care gave me the experience to respond to even the most stressful situations with a calm and efficient approach. Serving as a Nurse Practitioner in hospital and palliative care gave me a stronger appreciation of the fragility of life and how important it is to realize that life is about listening and responding rather than just reacting. Finally, working with individuals experiencing homelessness, I have seen how quickly and easily our lives can take a turn and further appreciate what I have and where I am.

Working through the current healthcare crisis has proven difficult for all frontline workers. Through much of this, I have worked in a health care center where I helped shaped the policies and protocols to effectively respond to the ever changing direction we were given. I also volunteered to return to the hospital. They did not need me in the first wave, but I have been working 2 shifts a month at Buffalo General and Millard Fillmore Suburban caring for the acutely ill, including Covid patients.

As a mother, nurse and homeowner in North Tonawanda I want to see this city thrive, and I think we can get there through communication and common sense governing. When elected, I plan to work hand-in-hand with government officials at the local, county and state levels to stabilize the current financial situation and work towards building a fiscally sound future for NT. In these challenging and trying times, when many municipalities across the state are facing a financial crisis, it is vital to secure all funding available to the city by taking action proactively – something the current council majority has failed to do. Residents of North Tonawanda should not suffer the fiscal consequences of a do-nothing governing body.

With the unequivocally dismal impact of the pandemic on local businesses and the city’s economy, city management needs to begin an effort to counter the effects, or the city will suffer for many years to come. This is why I plan to focus on post pandemic strategies to draw in outside visitors to places like the waterfront and farmers market. The residents of North Tonawanda know how much it has to offer, it is time we show the rest of Western New York.
